About Warrington

Warrington is an unincorporated community in Escambia County about six miles from both downtown Pensacola and the Alabama line, with 15,218 residents in the 2020 census (Wikipedia: Warrington, Florida). It is named for Lewis Warrington, the first commandant of the Pensacola Navy Yard, and the original village was moved north of Bayou Grande in the 1930s as Naval Air Station Pensacola grew. A 1975 vote to incorporate failed.

Docks, boat lifts and outdoor circuits

Bayfront lots often have docks, boat lifts and outdoor lighting. These circuits need GFCI protection, wet-rated equipment and corrosion-resistant hardware. The Electrical Safety Foundation International warns about shock hazards around docks and marinas (Electrical Safety Foundation International). If you feel a tingle in the water or on a dock, get out and have the wiring checked.

Flood zones

Many low lots near the bayous are in mapped flood zones; FEMA's maps show which (FEMA flood maps). Raising outdoor equipment and keeping the panel above likely flood levels limits damage. After flooding, see home wiring and rewiring.

Military households

Navy families move often, so homes change hands frequently. A buyer's walk-through with an eye on the panel, GFCIs and outdoor circuits is worthwhile.

County permits

Warrington is unincorporated, so electrical permits come from Escambia County (Escambia County).

Nearby

Pensacola is to the northeast, Perdido Key is southwest past Big Lagoon, Gulf Breeze sits across the bay and Ferry Pass is north of the city.
