About Navarre

Navarre is an unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County, about 25 miles east of Pensacola and centered where U.S. 98 meets State Road 87 (Wikipedia: Navarre, Florida). The Navarre CDP counted 40,817 residents in 2020, up from about 1,500 people in 1970. Many residents are connected to the military, and Navarre Beach has about four miles of Gulf frontage.

Growth and capacity

Newer homes north of U.S. 98 usually have modern panels but often need added circuits for home offices, garages, EV chargers and outdoor living. Older homes near the Sound may need panel updates and outdoor rewiring after years of salt air.

Military moves

With frequent moves, homes change hands often. Before closing, ask about the panel brand and age and test GFCIs; see the panel upgrade guide.

Generator safety

Navarre homes often run portable generators after storms. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's guidance is clear: outdoors only, at least 20 feet from the house, and never connected through a wall outlet (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, portable generators). An inlet and interlock make it safe and simple.

County permits

Navarre is unincorporated, so electrical permits come from Santa Rosa County (Santa Rosa County).

Nearby

Gulf Breeze is west along U.S. 98, Milton and Pace are north, and Perdido Key is at the far western end of the coast.

Asked and answered

Electrical questions from Navarre

  1. Who issues electrical permits in Navarre?

Santa Rosa County, since Navarre is unincorporated.

  2. What is a generator interlock?

A device on the panel that prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time, so you cannot backfeed the utility.

  3. Should I add circuits for a home office?

If you run computers, printers and a window unit or heater in one room, a dedicated circuit can prevent tripping.
